Sankalpa Rural Development Society (SRDS) is committed to ensuring equitable access to water and promoting sustainable development throughout rural India. Its mission is to end water scarcity across India through an integrated approach that combines rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and community-based water management. Guided by the motto “Save Water for a Better Tomorrow,” SRDS focuses on developing long-term water solutions that restore balance between people and the environment.
Major Interventions:
Community Pond Rejuvenation: SRDS undertakes large-scale pond rejuvenation projects that desilt, deepen, and strengthen ponds to enhance their capacity for rainwater storage. It rejuvenates neglected ponds and converts them into sustainable water sources for irrigation, livestock, and domestic use. The silt collected during desilting is distributed to farmers to enrich agricultural soil, creating a cycle of regeneration. Each rejuvenated pond becomes a living asset that revives biodiversity, supports farming, and strengthens water resilience in the community.
Borewell Recharge: An innovative technique developed to replenish groundwater efficiently. This method channels harvested rainwater into borewells using a system of cement rings that filter and guide water deep into the aquifers. The approach is simple, cost-effective, and adaptable to rural, urban, and industrial contexts. It helps farmers secure reliable irrigation sources, reduces dependence on external water supply, and improves agricultural productivity. SRDS implements hundreds of borewell recharge systems that transform water-scarce regions into sustainable zones of cultivation.
Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting: The NGO designs systems that capture and channel rainwater from roofs into storage tanks or recharge pits. This initiative ensures that rainwater, often wasted as runoff, becomes a valuable source for daily use and groundwater replenishment. Schools benefit from continuous water supply, improved sanitation, and environmental education, while industries adopt eco-friendly water management practices.
Support for Farmers: SRDS promotes tree-based farming, regenerative forestry, and sustainable agriculture. Through its rural entrepreneurship programs, it equips farmers and youth with modern farming techniques, farm mechanization tools, and skills to diversify livelihoods.
