Green Yatra Trust

Green Yatra Trust is a leading Indian environmental NGO focused on nature-centric approach to conservation and biodiversity protection, working across India. Their mission is to help organizations achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and carbon neutrality. Green Yatra offers customized programs that provide a one-stop solution, from assessing an organization's carbon footprint to providing solutions to offset it and can tailor solutions to fit an organization's specific objectives and policies.

Major Interventions:

Tree Plantation (Pedh Lagao) tackles air pollution and climate issues caused by rapid urbanization and deforestation in India. It aims to revive native green cover and combat air pollution through various tree plantation. The Miyawaki method is employed, a technique using native species planted densely to create self-sustaining forests that require minimal maintenance after a few years. Green Yatra has successfully established over 60 Miyawaki forests in major Indian cities and continues to expand their reach.

Biodiversity Park & Nature Interaction Centre combats habitat loss caused by human development. The strain on natural resources are growing as the population grows, leading to deforestation and a decline in everything from soil microorganisms to birds. To compensate, Green Yatra creates biodiversity parks in cities, serving as both a haven for native species and an educational tool for the public. Through sensory gardens, tree banks, cultural groves, butterfly gardens, and more, these parks aim to reconnect people with nature and inspire a love for the environment.

Rural Livelihood Plantation program aims to improve the lives of Indian farmers by providing them with sustainable income sources. Recognizing the challenges of small landholdings and limited income streams from monoculture farming, a diversified approach is offered to farmers for a continuous source of income, reduces reliance on single harvests, and builds resilience against climate variations. Additionally, the program educates farmers on new plantation methods and tree care, empowering them to manage their land more effectively.

Water Body Restoration (Project Jal) combats declining water levels by rejuvenating lakes, ponds, and rivers. This initiative, active in Mumbai, Delhi NCR, and Bangalore, has restored over 25 water bodies. By employing methods like check dams and ponds, Green Yatra not only increases water holding capacity for flood control but also provides clean water for livestock and habitats for aquatic life. The restored water bodies improve water quality, create recreational spaces, and promote biodiversity, all while fostering community engagement.

Carbon Auditing and Climate Education is a two-pronged approach to fighting climate change. Green Yatra help corporations reduce their environmental impact by conducting carbon audits, identifying emission sources, and suggesting mitigation strategies like renewable energy or waste reduction. The program tackles climate change through education, customizable climate education sessions with workshops and activities are designed to raise awareness and instil climate sensitivity in people of all ages and backgrounds.

Green Yatra believes in innovative solutions for nature protection. They've begun planting mangroves in coastal areas to help preserve water ecosystems.
