Programs

Waatavaran Foundation works at the intersection of environmental justice, social equity, and community empowerment. It envisions a world where marginalized communities, especially those in climate-vulnerable and forested regions, have the right to clean air, water, and a healthy environment. The goal is to create sustainable and inclusive models of development through collaboration, policy advocacy, and community-led action.

Major Interventions:

Climate Justice Program: It promotes climate justice by engaging with indigenous communities to raise awareness about climate impacts and empower them to lead environmental action. It strengthens the voices of forest dwellers through storytelling, research, and policy advocacy. The program also trains local leaders to participate in climate decision-making processes at various levels.

Adivasi Land and Forest Rights Program supports tribal communities in securing their legal rights over forest land and resources. Waatavaran facilitates community mobilization, legal education, and capacity-building efforts to ensure proper implementation of forest rights laws. It works closely with Gram Sabhas and other local governance bodies to promote sustainable forest management led by indigenous people.

Air Quality: The NGO addresses air pollution and its effects on vulnerable communities by building awareness and promoting solutions at the grassroots level. It collaborates with local organizations, researchers, and policymakers to ensure clean air becomes a priority in public health and planning strategies.

Youth and Community Leadership Development: Waatavaran offers training, mentorship, and platforms to amplify their advocacy for environmental and social justice. Through fellowships, workshops, and leadership labs, it enables youth to drive change in their regions and beyond.
