Gunvati J Kapoor Medical Relief Charitable Foundation supports programs in cancer care, education, healthcare, and social services with the intent to improve and sustain the standard of living and quality of life of all people with a focus on women and children.

Major Interventions:

Patient Guidance Program: The Foundation’s Patient Guidance Coordinators provide patients with critical services so they can access the resources they need while undergoing treatment. The goal is to increase patient survivorship by decreasing treatment abandonment rates. Patients are guided with their caregivers through services which helps them to complete treatment and make sure that patients don’t abandon the treatment. The programs includes documentation, financial, accommodation assistance and informative sessions to educate and motivate the patients to sustain treatment and utilize available resources.

Cancer Prevention and Early Detection: The NGO encourages breast, cervical and oral cancer prevention and early detection for women in underserved communities. Lack of access to well organized and well-regulated cancer care systems further complicates the situation. Prevention and Detection are two important components in the fight against cancer. The first part includes Cancer Awareness Talks where women are educated about the importance of Early Detection, and then we follow with Cancer Detection Camps where women are given the opportunity to undertake the following free tests: Ear Nose Throat test (ENT), Pap Smear, and Breast Examination.

Maatrutva: The goal is to educate pregnant women from low socio economic backgrounds about health care during pregnancy thereby encouraging health-seeking behaviour in them for safe deliveries. Topics like Nutrition, Care during Pregnancy, Breastfeeding and Family Planning are covered and the coordinators also follow-up with women till the time of their delivery for regular Ante natal clinic (ANC) visits, Medical Tests and Hospital Registration, etc.

Education: The Foundation awards a general scholarship to students from the Institute of Chemical Technology. The students volunteer 80 hours per year of time alongside their academics for community service to increase the sense of social responsibility.
