Thane CPCA strives to transform the lives of animals, particularly those living on the streets, in the wild, or as neglected pets. It aims to provide healthcare services for these animals and empower the community that cares for them through information and support. Ultimately, it envisions a society where animals receive proper care and compassion.
NGO activities are mainly divided into 3 factors:
Rescue: NGO receives calls for rescue work on the Animal Helpline number. Three ambulances support the work, servicing the entire 4,000 sq. km district. Neighbouring districts like Palghar and Raigad are also covered in case of need. Injured/distressed animals and cruelty cases are also reported. The medical staff in the vehicle provides on-the-spot treatment. Those who need more intensive care are brought back to the hospital.
Rehab: A large number of community animals are presented at the hospital as OPD patients. Once inside the hospital premises, veterinarians diagnose the patients and prescribe further treatment for both the OPD patients as well as the animals brought in by the rescue team. Animal birth control surgeries on every animal (age and health permitting) are preferred before they are returned to their territory or adopted & are inoculated before release.
Release: The most satisfying part of the work done by Thane CPCA is when an animal is returned to where it came from. Sometimes, animals are reported by passers-by. In such cases, utmost care is taken to visit the spot several times in the weeks after release, to ensure the animal is comfortable. In case of wild animals, the Forest Department is informed, and the animal is released into its habitat.
It also aims to counter cases of abuse faced by animals at the hands of humans through physical counselling, enlisting the help of police, law enforcement agencies, and even through directives of the Honourable Court of Law.
