In Defence of Animals (IDA) India works tirelessly to improve the lives of street-living animals. The mission is to protect, care for, and advocate for animals in need, thereby promoting a world where kindness, respect, and compassion are standard practice. Its commitment involves providing shelter, offering rehabilitation for abandoned and abused animals, and championing policy changes to prevent cruelty. The motto that guides all their actions is simple yet powerful: Rescue, Heal, Release.
Major Interventions:
Animal Birth Control (ABC): The NGO sterilizes street-living animals, including dogs & cat,s to help manage the population humanely. This work is often done in collaboration with various municipal corporations, reflecting a dedicated partnership approach to community animal welfare. They operatea dedicated infrastructure to ensure the safe and effective completion of these procedures.
Veterinary Treatment and Mobile Clinics: IDA runs an Outpatient Department (OPD), which serves as a vital resource for individuals who care for their pets but face economic constraints regarding expensive veterinary treatment. It utilizes a fleet of ambulances and mobile clinics to reach distressed animals, allowing for prompt rescue and transport to their centers for surgical and medical aid.
Complex Clinical Surgeries and Shelter: The surgeries include hernia repairs, tumor removals, and specialized treatments for various infections and injuries. Following surgery, the dedicated team provides extensive post-operative attention, ensuring a full recovery. The centers also offer shelter for animals with special needs, including the elderly, blind, and handicapped, who require long-term care before returning to their communities.
Fostering and Adoption: IDA India encourages and supports the fostering and adoption of animals, providing a pathway for rescued animals to find permanent, loving homes. Foster care is recognized as the crucial first step toward a successful adoption. It focuses on finding safe environments for little ones and ensures that animals not suited for release thrive in a domestic setting.
