Programs

Ashadeep is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with mental health disorders and their families. It extends its services to persons with intellectual disabilities, homeless individuals with mental illness, and underserved communities in the Northeast region. Guided by the vision of ensuring a better quality of life for those affected, its mission focuses on initiating and strengthening mental health interventions to make quality mental health services accessible to all, irrespective of background.

Major Interventions:

Day Rehabilitation Centre & Rural Special School: It offers special education, skill enhancement, and rehabilitation for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and associated disorders. It also supports persons recovering from mental illness. The Rural Special School in Dhupdhara replicates these services in a rural setting, providing educational and therapeutic interventions, caregiver support, and community inclusion.

Rehabilitation Homes for Homeless Persons with Mental Illness: Navachetana for women and Udayan for men provide psychiatric care and psychosocial rehabilitation to homeless individuals with mental illness. The program aims for reintegration into families and communities, using individualized care plans, vocational training, and community sensitization to reduce stigma and prevent relapse. The Shared Home Programme allows residents to share accommodation with support staff, engage in vocational activities, and develop life skills, fostering autonomy and social inclusion in Assam and Nagaland.

Community Mental Health Programme: Ashadeep works through outreach, awareness, and collaboration with public health systems. It addresses severe and common mental disorders, epilepsy, and intellectual disabilities, offering screening, treatment, caregiver education, and community-based rehabilitation. The Outdoor Composite Care Unit provides psychiatric consultations, psychological counselling, and therapies such as occupational, speech, and physiotherapy, ensuring access to mental health care for marginalized populations.

Resource Centre: Ashadeep offers training, internships, and workshops for students and professionals in mental health care. It also develops manuals, promotes research, and provides capacity-building programs for caregivers and service providers. It also imparts vocational training and livelihood opportunities through activities like livestock farming, handicrafts, gardening, and café operations. It supports financial independence and reduces stigma by showcasing the capabilities of individuals with mental illness or disabilities.
