Muktangan is an inclusive educational initiative that empowers individuals from underserved communities to become extraordinary educators. Meaning "Freedom in the Aangan," it fosters holistic learning for children and teachers within nurturing environments. It develops a model where a central Teacher Education Centre supports several municipal schools to provide high-quality education. It strives to create happy classrooms that nurture curiosity, creativity, and confidence in every child.
Major Interventions:
Holistic Development and Artistic Expression
The organization integrates art, music, physical education, dance, and drama as core parts of the school curriculum. This approach empowers learners to hone their creative expression and see the world as full of possibilities. Students participate in musical journeys, perform violin melodies at prestigious venues, and showcase their talents in annual creative events.
STEM and Interdisciplinary Learning
Interdisciplinary initiatives make abstract subjects like math and science relatable through exploration and curiosity. Students engage in projects such as investigating fish biodiversity in marine habitats and documenting the growth of local bird families. These programs build a culture of innovation and empower children to take charge of their learning in a modern world.
Socio-emotional Learning and Inclusion
The organization prioritizes mental wellness by training selected teachers as facilitators who support the emotional growth of students. These educators create safe, non-judgmental spaces that encourage children to share feelings and build resilience. Additionally, the inclusion department trains teachers in specialized strategies, such as sign language, to enhance accessibility for diverse learners.
Teacher Education and Professional Development
The initiative focuses on transforming education by transforming educators through continuous professional development. Teachers act as mentors and facilitators rather than figures of authority, fostering mutual respect and emotional safety in the classroom. Pre-service courses equip community members with professional skills in early childhood pedagogy, enabling them to become confident future changemakers.
