Programs
Rural Development Foundation (RDF) focusses on educating, engaging and empowering rural girls and boys. Instead of the conventional method of rote memorization, RDF promotes cultivating critical thinking skills and encouraging students to understand and apply concepts through special programs such as Social Awareness, Youth Empowerment, Student Leadership, and Sports. The NGO strives to develop students who will become empowered leaders of their communities, thus working towards the vision of a transformed and prosperous rural India.
Major Interventions:
RDF currently runs four schools and one junior college spread over two districts in Andhra Pradesh/Telangana.
A voice lab for Matendla School is functional to improve students’ English skills including pronunciation, speaking, listening, writing and reading skills; in order to enhance overall communication skills. National Maths and Science days are celebrated through fun activities enhancing its importance in education and what is required to bring about innovative solutions to everyday issues. Students are engaged in innovative and research backed scientific and technical programmes that are also socially and environmentally productive. Interested high school students undergo a 12-month training for entry-level IT jobs.
Student activities including music, theatre, general knowledge, art and craft projects and subject specific programmes are conducted thereby making learning fun for the children by engaging and boosting their skills and knowledge in different areas. Competitions and quizzes are organised resulting in buzz and honing awareness, analytical skills. The NGO has been focusing on teaching art and craft, using waste material, painting and rangolis drives behavioural change in society.
Various training and development programmes help teachers upgrade their skills and become comfortable with technology and using online platforms. Through an MOU with Tech Mahindra Foundation (TMF), RDF extends services to primary government schools by involving senior staff and external education partners. Practical learning, career pathways and educational field trips are an integral part of RDF’s process to develop the students. Learning from one’s local environment and community is very valuable for children.
