SAJAG Charitable Trust works to bridge the educational gap for children from disadvantaged families living in the peripheral regions of Mumbai. It follows the belief that every child deserves equitable access to foundational learning opportunities. SAJAG’s mission focuses on strengthening foundational literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional learning for young learners. It aims to build confident, curious, and expressive children through a child-centric approach that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and inclusive learning environments.
Major Interventions:
Vidyasadan: Complementary Learning Centres serves as SAJAG’s community-based after-school program that focuses on early literacy and numeracy. It provides a safe and supportive learning environment where children engage with hands-on activities, interactive lessons, and structured academic support. The program helps children build confidence in reading, writing, and basic mathematics while encouraging regular school attendance. Vidyasadan plays a key role in strengthening the learning foundation of children who require additional academic guidance outside school.
EnRead: Children’s Library and Reading Space is a vibrant, open library designed to instil a love for books and imagination among young readers. The space offers a diverse collection of picture books, storybooks, and learning materials that encourage self-driven exploration. Children engage in free reading, storytelling, toy-based learning, and creative play. EnRead promotes curiosity and helps children develop reading habits that support long-term academic growth. It also acts as a community resource that brings families and children together around the joy of reading.
Shala Sangati works directly with government schools to strengthen classroom instruction. The program focuses on teacher capacity building, interactive pedagogy, and inclusive classroom practices. SAJAG supports teachers in creating engaging learning spaces that respond to the needs of multi-level and multilingual classrooms. Through regular mentoring and activity-based resources, Shala Sangati enhances classroom quality and supports systemic improvement within schools.
Read Aloud Program helps school teachers integrate storytelling and read-aloud techniques into language learning. The program encourages expressive reading, listening comprehension, and meaningful interaction with books. It also sets up reading corners and provides high-quality learning materials.
