Mitra Jyothi operates as a dedicated School for Skill Development and Inclusion, focusing entirely on the visually impaired community. Its vision, "Transforming Potential into Power," aims to build an inclusive world where every visually impaired individual possesses the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to lead an independent and dignified life while contributing meaningfully to society. Complementing this, the mission, "From Learning to Livelihood," is to unlock individual potential by offering life-changing opportunities in education, skill development, and technology, thereby nurturing independence and opening pathways to meaningful livelihoods.
Major Interventions:
Digital Literacy and Computer Training: This crucial program addresses the gap in technology access and skill development for visually impaired individuals. The initiative equips participants with essential computer skills, significantly boosting their readiness for higher education, employment, and social inclusion. The training includes a Bridge Course for students transitioning after completing their tenth grade. It also offers a Basic Digital Literacy Course focused on foundational skills like MS Office and internet use, and an Advanced Digital Literacy Course that covers in-depth computer applications, including specialized tools and social media platforms for professional networking.
Accessible Content Production: Mitra Jyothi recognizes the immense barrier posed by the lack of accessible reading materials. This program works tirelessly to convert print materials into accessible formats, primarily Braille, audiobooks, and e-text. This initiative directly supports education and lifelong learning by ensuring that students and working professionals have immediate access to necessary resources, from academic textbooks to general literature, effectively bridging the information gap.
Employment Program: The NGO operates a dedicated employment support service that guides visually impaired job seekers towards sustainable careers. The program provides comprehensive counselling and coaching, helping individuals understand job market expectations, build confidence, and develop effective interview strategies. It serves as a vital link between skilled candidates and potential employers, matching trained individuals with suitable job opportunities.
