The Avehi Public Charitable Trust is dedicated to strengthening the public education system through qualitative interventions. It works toward a system that prioritises active learners. Its mission focuses on equipping children with essential skills and values while empowering teachers to become reflective, transformative intellectuals who contribute to positive social change. The NGO strives to institutionalise creative and meaningful curricula within formal schools and teacher education platforms to foster harmony and celebrate diversity.
Major Interventions:
Sangati is a comprehensive life skills enhancement and enrichment curriculum designed for children between the ages of ten and fourteen. It comprises six interactive teaching-learning kits that draw on themes from the sciences and social sciences to make school education more relevant and vibrant. The program encourages students to think critically about themselves, their environment, and the society they live in. It currently operates in municipal schools, special schools, and residential schools for tribal children, using various pedagogic devices to build student confidence and conceptual clarity.
Saath Saath is a curriculum focused on living together in harmony by promoting awareness of gender justice and equality. It serves both school environments and community settings, reaching adolescent girls, boys, and women. The program addresses the resurgence of social awareness regarding gender issues and helps participants recognise and challenge patriarchal structures. By facilitating these discussions, Saath Saath contributes to building a more equitable and just society.
Manthan is a foundation course designed specifically for student-teachers enrolled in elementary education diplomas. It functions as a "churning" process that provides future educators with conceptual clarity on various societal issues and essential pedagogic tools. The program emphasises the importance of a strong value system, effective communication, and self-awareness in the teaching profession. Through Manthan, student-teachers learn to behave responsibly as they realise their actions are constantly replicated by their future students.
