Sahyog Foundation is dedicated to fostering resilient and sustainable communities. It works to improve the quality of life through a holistic approach rooted in sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation. Its programs focus on climate resilience, livelihood support, youth empowerment, and community development, working directly with grassroots stakeholders to create lasting change.
Major Interventions:
Food Security & Sustainable Livelihoods: Sahyog ensures access to nutritious and sufficient food for all, with particular attention to vulnerable communities. It promotes environmentally sound practices that enhance soil, water, and biodiversity conservation while improving crop yields and farmer livelihoods through sustainable agriculture. It supports rural communities in developing diverse and sustainable livelihood options, including agriculture, livestock, and non-farm enterprises.
Skill Development & Youth Empowerment: A youth parliament program offers a platform for young people to voice opinions, develop leadership, and enhance public speaking skills. It provides courses in computer literacy, vocational training, and entrepreneurship to improve employability and self-sufficiency. Sports are used to promote teamwork, physical and mental well-being, and resilience among youth.
Rural Development & Natural Resource Management: It selects plant species that are native to the local ecosystem and well-suited to the climate, soil, and topography. It plants native species on degraded or barren lands using afforestation, reforestation, and agroforestry. It uses the Miyawaki method to plant multiple native species together for dense, diverse forests. It also plant mangroves in coastal areas to restore forests and protect shorelines. Additionally, it manages water resources holistically, considering social, economic, and environmental aspects. It ensures long-term availability of water for future generations and adapts to climate change and other factors affecting water availability.
Disaster Risk Reduction: Sahyog identifies hazards and vulnerabilities for targeted interventions and provides timely alerts for disaster preparedness. It promotes flood-resistant construction and green infrastructure and supports vulnerable populations during disasters, develops policies, and supports emergency responders. It also provides training on risk reduction and emergency response, supports sea walls and green roofs, and offers counselling and trauma care.
