Crisis: In a country of 25 million orphans, only ~5,000 orphans come into the adoption stream. Many children, though eligible for adoption, are languishing in Child Care Institutions (CCI) because most CCIs are not licensed to give up children for adoptions. Nearly 22% of the children in CCIs have no or very little parental contact & can be made legally free for adoption. Children have to leave orphanages once they turn 18 years; in many cases this happens even earlier. Around 50,000 children have to move out of orphanages every year.
Programs: CSA's mission is to create a brighter future for orphans in need of care and protection. Their area of work covers the entire eco-system spanning Adoption, Orphanages and Aftercare. Within these areas, they have identified gaps and work with existing institutions and stakeholders to fill them and strengthen the systems and processes. Services are provided free to adoptive parents/child care institutions.
Outcome: 1) CSA impacts lives of 3,400 children across 60+ CCIs/orphanages in 4 states by providing holistic support. 2) Extends basic support to cover 200 orphanages covering 10,000 children and transformed 50 orphanages into Model Homes. 3) Extends Aftercare & Livelihood support to 1,000+ children.
