Creating a Brighter Future for Children under Institutional Care
Crisis: Yearly <5,000 Indian children come into the adoption stream despite nearly 29 million children being without parental support. Many children eligible for adoption are languishing in Child Care Institutions (CCI) because most CCIs are not licensed to give up children for adoptions. ~22% of these children have no or little parental contact and can be made legally free for adoption. They have to leave CCIs once they turn 18 years. ~50,000 children move out of CCIs yearly.
Programs: CSA partners with CCIs and works to improve and enhance the quality of care to children. Their work covers the entire eco-system spanning Adoption, CCIs, and Aftercare. Main Initiatives - i) Health & Nutrition: Water Sanitation & Hygiene; Supplementary Nutrition; Day to Day Essentials. ii) Education & Development: Mainstream Education; Life Skill Training; Digital Engagement; etc. iii) Livelihood & Aftercare support. iv) Capacity Building & Advocacy: Adoption Support; CCI Sustainability; Stakeholder Workshops & Trainings.
Outcome: 1) CSA impacts lives of 4,531 children across 87 CCIs by providing holistic support. 2) Support extended to 14 CCIs under Basic CCI development program and 73 under Model CCI development program. 3) Aftercare and Livelihood support to 197 children. 4) 36 children from the Aftercare program earning ₹6,000 to ₹12,000 monthly. 5) 550+ queries answered on adoption through helpline.
