Sustainable holistic development among the underserved
Native Medicare Charitable Trust (NMCT) commenced its operations in 1988 with a holistic approach to resolve challenges faced by tribal communities. The organizations aimed at improving livelihood activities of tribal communities, increasing awareness and treatment of the HIV affected, promotion of healthcare and nutrition, etc.
Programs: i) NMCT runs two programs to enable treatment to industrial migrants and tribal societies affected by HIV, they also runs HIV Awareness campaigns. ii) The Tribal Development Project helps farmers with lands to improve their cultivation practices and train landless tribes with livelihood supportive activities. iii) The NGO is working on bettering healthcare facilities for children across schools in Coimbatore villages. There is also a Mobile Ambulance providing Nutritional Supplements to villagers. iv) Internet Saathi, an initiative by NMCT conducts digital literacy training for women and girls of tribal communities.
Outcome: 5,406 HIV positive beneficiaries received medical aid and counseling throug the organization. NMCT runs 676 tailoring schools in 14 districts of Tamil Nadu financially empowering women and men. 3,864 children were trained for Community & Household Hygiene across 23 schools.
