Educating the underprivileged of Uttarakhand
  • G.K. Swamy founder of Purkal Youth Development Society (PYDS) began the organization's operations as an after-school tutoring program. In 2008, it grew to a fully equipped and established Society to cater to the needs of the underprivileged sections of Purkal, Uttarakhand.
  • PYDS currently runs a Care Center and a Secondary School providing holistic education, nutrition and healthcare free of cost to the kids of rural communities in and around Purkal. They also enable supplement services along with education like mentorship, hostel facilities for children and vocational training for the youth suffering through adverse situations at home.
  • Today, there are almost 550 students (ages between 3 to 19) being taught under PYDS' Secondary School with an attendance rate of 97.7% and lesser dropouts. PYDS also became a proud recipient of the Social Impact Award competing with 30 countries for their work with the children and youth of villages in Purkal.
