Muktangan (an innovative model of the Paragon Charitable Trust) was developed to demonstrate the best practices in education through an inclusive, student and teacher friendly, community-based system within mainstream schooling. The ‘total schools’ approach provides holistic learning keeping in mind 21st century skills which are so essential for young learners of today. It works closely at the grassroots in partnership with various Governmental, Non-governmental organizations and academic institutions in urban and rural areas as knowledge partners to deliver integrated solutions to education.

Major Interventions:

School Program: The NGO believes that learning is a process which occurs through experience and reflections. Children are not just passive receivers of information; they are also active contributors in the classroom. The extensive school programme aims at addressing major gaps in the mainstream education system by providing conducive learning environments. The student- teacher ratio is low enabling one-to-one interactions between teacher and student. Overall, it concentrates on the holistic education, career guidance and mentoring, socio-emotional development, blended learning, nutrition, library and information communication technology and community connect.

Teacher Training:  It consists of three vital components,

  • Pre-service Teacher Education is the idea of developing community members into change facilitators. It aims at equipping teacher trainees with a strong theoretical foundation in the core areas of child development, emergent literacy, maths, critical thinking, inclusive practices and personal educational beliefs.
  • Inservice Teacher Education includes candidates serving as teachers in the schools after completing the 1-year of pre-service. They are further developed through orientation meetings, weekly curriculum understanding and design meetings and English proficiency sessions.
  • Teachers and trainees undertake a self-appraisal facilitated by experienced faculty thrice a year based on their Key Performance Areas (KPA) and critical attributes (CA).

Further, the ECHO Model is an online, case-based learning model connecting participants across the globe for building capacity and sharing best practices. One of the key focus areas is to bridge educational gaps by empowering teachers with different teaching learning strategies to address challenges such as classroom diversity, lack of resources and skills, differences in learning styles of children and curricular adaptation.

Outreach Program: The goal is advocating the best practices of the programmes which can further be replicated and contextualized to facilitate more universally applicable learnings. The NGO regularly participate in discussion panels, consultation forums and “think-tanks” as well as present papers at the local, state, national and international forums to advocate our learnings and processes.
