Barnamala Educational & Cultural Society (BECS) is works towards helping the needy people to achieve and sustain a better quality of life thereby strengthening their involvement, rights and responsibility in the fast growing development of the country. The NGO primarily works in the areas of animal welfare, vocational trainings for the underprivileged, spreading awareness and health treatment of the poor, women empowerment, etc. Main activities are: Animal Welfare: The NGO runs a Goshala and a health clinic for animals which are immunized and treated with great care. The number of animals served and sheltered includes dogs, cows, disabled old bulls, goats, cats etc. It also conducts regular health camps for animals. Vocational & Agricultural Trainings: The organization provides trainings in the fields of Tailoring, Knitting, Stitching, Zari Patch, Beautician, Crystal and Kantha Stitch for women. It also provides trainings towards Farming, Gotery and Dairy, Bambo Craft thereby promoting sustainable livelihood and socio-organisational capacity building. Early Childhood Education Centre offers informal teaching & provides nutritive food, free medical services & play materials to children. Their articulation abilities and communications skills are developed through dramatics, role play, rhymes, songs and dances. Health Camps: BECS runs a homoeopathic clinic, which is mainly visited by tribal women and children. The NGO also organizes diabetes check-up camps along with blood donation, eye check-up, leprosy treatment, HIV/AIDS, polio, and sanitation. It also distribute clothes, ration, educational materials, wheel chairs, and blankets to the poor and those affected by leprosy. Events & Celebrations: To maintain the national heritage of India, BECS celebrates important festivals and encourages people from all walks of life & age groups to join in the same such as Independence and Republic Day, Women’s Day, International Yoga, Language and Literacy Day, World Animal Welfare and Environ Day, Bibekananda, Rabindranath Tagore and Netaji’s birth Day. Women Empowerment & Adolescent Development: One of the prime focuses of the NGO is women and their need in our society with a motto to 60% engagement of women in their own business, enabling them to generate income and self-employment. The promotion of self-help groups and skill development trainings has offered them with bank and credit linkage, arranged selling outlets and extended hand holding support. Sports & Awareness: BECS organizes tournaments for sports such as football, cricket, and volleyball. It also conducts competitions in essay writing, drawing and quizzes. |
