Socio-Economic Development of Rural Communities
  • In 2005, Barnamala Educational & Cultural Society (BECS) began its as a not for profit organization in West Bengal, India. Their objective was to strengthen rural communities through their active participation in their sustainable development.
  • Programs: i) Animal Welfare: BECS is known to care for companion and domestic animals, they run a health clinic with an in-house dispensary for them. ii) Education: The organization has a remedial center for students to learn functional skills of development; they set up regular educational material distribution camps and also have a rural library accessible to all. iii) Healthcare: Family planning and counselling and Health and Sanitation Camps come under Healthcare initiatives. iv) Women Empowerment: Training workshops for skill development, formation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Awareness camps for women rights, advocacy, etc. v) Others: Environment protection; De-Addiction awareness workshops; Road safety training
