Sankalp Jyoti was established to create a self-reliant society in which women play a proactive role and help provide equal opportunities for disadvantaged and marginalized groups in Bihar.

Some of their activities in 2014-15 were:

  • Skill Development: Sankalp Jyoti trained 200 adolescent girls and boys in different trades like Spoken English, Data Entry Operation, and Tailoring. About 95% of the students passed the examination conducted after completion of training conducted from May to October. The organization also assisted these students in their search for employment.
  • Nutrimix: With the help of SHGs, Sankalp Jyoti prepared and provided 225 packets of Nutrimix containing wheat, grain, sugar, peanuts, etc. for lactating mothers and infants.
  • Education & Training: A skill development program was conducted for imparting training in Driving, Tailoring and Beautician skills. This was organized with the support of community and participants in Naubatpur block of Patna. A one day training program on Yoga and Meditation was organized in December for girls of class XI and XII.
  • Health Check-Up Camp: A medical camp was conducted in June 2014 in the slum area of Kankarbagh where over 100 members of deprived communities participated.
  • Awareness Programs: (i) HIV/AIDS awareness – An awareness rally was conducted on World AIDS Day in Maner Bazar, Patna. A road show was also organized where people from different age groups actively participated. (ii) Nukkad Natak – Street Play shows were conducted over a period of one week in 12 villages with the objective of communicating messages related to health and nutrition issues and the available Government health facilities to the target community. (iii) Road Safety, Fire & Earthquake – Sankalp Jyoti organized an awareness program on Road Safety, Fire and Earthquake in Shastri Nagar Boys High School, Bankipur Girls High School, and Shastri Nagar Girls High School in February 2015. About 1,000 students along with teachers actively participated in this program that involved essay writing, quizzes, paintings, road shows, and orientation on the topic.
