Goonj redefines development through collaborative material systems, transforming urban surplus into a resource for rural needs. Goonj’s vision is to build an equitable relationship of strength, sustenance, and dignity, moving beyond resource-less narratives. The core idea stems from recognizing wealth in human dignity and the world’s surplus.

Major Interventions:

Cloth for Work (CFW): Goonj mobilizes rural communities to work on their issues. These issues include water conservation, infrastructure repair, and agricultural improvements. Essential material kits become a reward for development work undertaken by rural communities. This program extends the concept of circularity, turning textile waste into resources that drive rural development and foster sustainable livelihoods. Green By Goonj (GBG) is a brand that creates a wide range of handcrafted, eco-friendly gifting items from urban textile waste, providing dignified livelihood opportunities to women involved in Cloth-Based Employment (CBE).

Disaster Response and Resilience (GARRD): Goonj is dedicated to building climate resilience and responds to humanitarian crises with a proactive, people-led disaster relief and rehabilitation approach. It identifies and addresses fundamental flaws in how society understands and responds to disasters. This initiative focuses on immediate relief while also supporting long-term rehabilitation and rebuilding damaged infrastructure and assets in affected communities.

Environment and Agriculture: Goonj supports initiatives like kitchen gardens, community farming projects, and tree plantation drives. These efforts enhance local ecosystems and improve food and water access for rural communities, fostering self-reliance and environmental restoration. It implements WASH programs that encompass water, sanitation, and hygiene. It works on repairing and revitalizing water systems, improving sanitation facilities like toilets, and addressing menstrual health and hygiene with initiatives like "Not Just a Piece of Cloth" (NJPC). These programs promote dignity, health, and well-being in communities.

School to School (S2S) works to fill gaps and nudge community action towards better learning environments. Goonj mobilizes parents and communities to improve infrastructure and resources in rural schools. The S2S program channels educational materials, supporting learning and creating positive changes in the lives of students.
