Noida Deaf Society (NDS) provides quality education to hearing impaired children and specialized vocational trainings leading to gainful employment to hearing impaired youth. Since inception, NDS has trained over 4,500 students and employed over 1,120 youth across industry sectors.

Their activities include:

  • Primary Education: A Primary Education Program was started to make quality learning accessible to children in the age group of 5 to 14 years and to fill the gaps in the education system for deaf. Learning is facilitated in a nurturing environment through play way methods and visual aids, thereby enabling the child to develop cognitive, social and academic skills. It starts with developing sign language skills, which then becomes the medium of instruction to teach other subjects including Hindi, English, Computers, Mathematics, Arts & Crafts, and Core Life Skills. Currently, NDS is reaching out to 52 children from low income families.
  • Supplementary Education: A specialized remedial program for school-going deaf children is conducted with a focus on building communication skills through Indian Sign Language, English, and Hindi. Students are also taught Functional Mathematics, EVS, and Core Life skills. Conducted in partnership with Educomp Smart Class, these classes transform the learning process and abilities of 100 deaf students every year through visual learning.
  • Customized Curriculums: Keeping in mind needs of the deaf learners and current industry standards, NDS has developed interactive and activity based curriculums on desktop publishing/graphic designing, English communication, Indian sign language, hospitality, workplace readiness, and computer networking and hardware.
  • Pool of Trainers: Through peer education and intensive capacity enhancement, NDS has created a pool of trainers, special educators, and interpreters who are encouraged to take responsibility and become community leaders. Trainers trained at NDS are also being employed with other organizations to teach deaf children and youth.
  • Employment: NDS has collaborated with 21 new companies across industry sectors as part of the Employment Program. In FY15, the customized curriculum and specialised training has helped 184 disabled youth to acquire the right skill sets and get placed in various industries.
