Crisis: People are so held up in their hectic schedules that they feel they have no time to cater to the needs of the elderly at their homes. The elderly are often deserted mercilessly and some even have no place to sleep! Ashraya Seva Trust was established with the objective to provide shelter, food, and healthcare to elderly women who are either abandoned or neglected by their families.
Programs: 1) Healthcare: The Trust conducts regular health check-ups, provides hospital admissions, treatment, free medical assistance and medicines, and conducts medical camps in rural areas. They organize health camps in association with local hospitals and private doctors. 2) Basic Amenities: Nutritious meals, shelter, clothing, and other basic necessities are provided. 3) Recreation: Bhajans, yoga, meditation classes, regular counseling, tours and picnics, cultural programs are organized.
Outcome: 1) Life expectancy of the beneficiaries has increased. 2) Overall improvement in their health and lifestyle. 3) The abandoned elderly women have a secure space to live in. 4) So far, over 1,000 women have been taken care of through active mental well-being workshops and 13,000 elderly women and children have received basic healthcare through the Trust's rural medical camps.
