Rehabilitation of Destitute Elderly
  • Crisis: People are so held up in their hectic schedules that they feel they have no time to cater to the needs of the elderly at their homes. The elderly are often deserted mercilessly and some even have no place to sleep! Aashraya Seva Trust was established with the objective to provide shelter, food, and healthcare to elderly women who are either abandoned, or neglected by their family.
  • Programs: 1) Healthcare: Regular health check-ups, hospital admissions, treatment and free medical assistance, distribution of free medicines, medical camps in rural areas. The Trust organises health camps in association with local hospitals and private doctors. 2) Basic amenities: Nutritious meals, shelter, clothing and other basic necessities. 3) Recreation: Bhajans, yoga, meditation classes, regular counselling, tours and picnics, cultural programs.
  • Outcome: 1) Life expectancy of the beneficiaries has increased. 2) Overall improvement in their health and lifestyle. 3) The abandoned elderly women have a secure space to live in. 4) Positive change in their behaviour and approach towards life. 5) Over 800 women served till date.
