Creating clean, green, self-reliant villages
  • Crisis: Around 50% of India's geographical area is degraded despite adequate rainfall. Barely 10% of water is harvested and topsoil is eroded due to lack of green cover.
  • Program: As a project implementation agency, Vanarai participates in basic village improvement activities, watershed activities, and livelihood Self Help Groups. It has worked in more than 250 villages so far.
  • Impact: They conduct health camps in villages twice a year and also gynaecology camps for women. They have helped construct toilets for high school girls, resulting in substantial decline in their dropout rate. Vanarai produces books and documentary films to increase awareness.
