Aftertaste Foundation focuses on empowering women from urban slums in Mumbai. It envisions a world where women achieve economic independence and social dignity, breaking the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families. The mission is to transform unskilled homemakers into skilled artisans through the creative manufacturing of handmade products, providing a pathway to sustainable livelihoods. Guided by a philosophy that empowered women lead to empowered families, Aftertaste fosters a culture of sisterhood and community-based support. Major Interventions: Creative Manufacturing and Livelihood: The core of Aftertaste’s initiatives lies in training women in art and craft to produce handcrafted items such as sustainable gifts, soft toys, and hand-painted products. These products cater to diverse markets, including corporate gifting, weddings, and festive solutions. The women work in a safe, inclusive environment with flexible hours, enabling them to balance personal responsibilities while earning a dignified income. Social and Economic Empowerment: Aftertaste emphasizes both financial literacy and social empowerment. Women artisans gain decision-making capabilities, self-esteem, and a sense of identity as respected artisans. They acquire exposure and confidence through participation in exhibitions and events, further strengthening their roles as leaders in their households and communities. Youth and Family Development: Beyond individual empowerment, Aftertaste addresses the development of artisans’ families. It supports the next generation with education, skill training, and employment opportunities. Beneficiaries’ children have transitioned to professional roles in technology, law, and culinary arts, illustrating the program’s intergenerational impact. Sustainability and Impact: Aftertaste's model uses eco-friendly materials and processes and is rooted in environmental sustainability. The enterprise actively partners with corporations and non-profits to expand its reach, train differently-abled individuals, and provide skill-building programs. Its long-term goal includes scaling operations to support more women and families, ensuring broad societal impact. |
