Navikru Eco Foundation empowers individuals to adopt sustainable practices and become zero-waste practitioners and conservationists. With its roots in Ladakh, the foundation is committed to promoting environmental stewardship through education, community engagement, and innovative solutions. Its mission focuses on integrating zero-waste principles, sustainability education, and resource management in communities and institutions across the Himalayan region.

Major Interventions:

Earthian Program: This initiative integrates sustainability themes like waste, water, and biodiversity into school curricula through activity-based learning in Ladakh. It engages schools, monastic institutions, and Islamic institutes, fostering awareness and environmental responsibility among students and educators.

Zero-Waste School and Community Projects: Through projects in villages like Kaksar and Lankore, Navikru has introduced innovative resource banks for waste segregation and recycling. These efforts emphasize transforming waste into resources while reducing litter and environmental degradation in remote mountain areas.

Passive Solar Classrooms and Greenhouses: Navikru has been constructing passive solar classrooms and greenhouses in schools like Lobar Choskore and Gond Minjee to address extreme climatic conditions. These structures enhance learning environments and promote sustainable agricultural practices, reducing reliance on external resources.

Community Outreach and Advocacy: Navikru organizes diverse programs such as birdwatching excursions, filmmaking workshops, and summer camps to foster experiential learning. These activities encourage participants to explore and appreciate their natural surroundings while adopting sustainable practices. It collaborates with local authorities and global platforms like Break Free From Plastic to advocate for stronger environmental policies. Its outreach extends to raising awareness on topics such as menstrual hygiene and sustainable living in remote communities.

The Himalayan Cleanup is a region-specific initiative addressing plastic pollution, it involves volunteers in waste audits and brand assessments by emphasizing community engagement and sustainable waste management practices.
