Samavedana's core work is to help provide low cost or free treatment to poor patients at Sahyadri Hospitals. Preference is given to younger people, for complex surgeries, or to those who can be cured completely and lead a normal life after treatment. They have helped save 6,000 lives so far.
Approximately 1 million cancer cases are detected every year. When detected early the cure rate is 60-70%; in advanced stages the cure rate falls to 20%. Samavedana focuses mainly on cervical and breast cancer, and women are supported for further investigation and treatment.
Samavedana is actively involved in creating awareness on skin donations as the need is greater than the tissue/organs available for transplant, especially for burn patients.
