Building a Child-Friendly environment for our communities
  • Crisis: Generally it is the family's responsibility to nurture & protect the child. However when the family itself is in crisis due to circumstances such as poverty, marginalization, it becomes exhausting to fulfill this role. Such a situation leaves the child vulnerable to exploitation. Almost every child goes through a point in time when he or she is vulnerable under such circumstances.
  • Programs: Community Action Society (CAS) was established for improving the living conditions of children from marginalized communities in and around Kolkata. For the same to be materialized CAS came up with programs like: a) Under their Educational Programs CAS is working on projects like Mid-day meals provided to students in Government aided schools of Kolkata, various Training & Capacity building workshops to facilitators, sponsoring girl child education and operating residential school program. b) CAS also has other projects related to Health & Hygiene of a child, executing Child protection Risk Assessments to put a certain discipline amongst the society in order and different campaigns on Safe Driving, awareness on clean drinking water and sanitation.
  • Outcome: Community Action Society is currently serving Mid-day Meal to 1800 students and Sensitization workshops of 1400 School Management Committee members of on RTE Act 2009 and School Development Plan have successfully been carried out till 2018. They has also provided Residential school program to 200 underprivileged children.
