SEVAK carries out ventures among the disadvantaged communities for increasing their income, improving access to education, health care facilities and training in human resources development. Sevak puts a heavy emphasis on child welfare ensuring protection of children against exploitation, abuse and neglect.

Interventions:

Self Help Groups

SEVAK has organized a total of 132 Self Help Groups of women in 34 villages and in 8 slums in Belgaum city, where the organization has been in operation. These SHGs are doing their savings and thrift activities and take active part in awareness generation program. Two Federations of Self-Help Groups have been monitoring the member SHGs and have liaison and linkages with the banks and concerned Government departments.

Cooperative Societies

Cooperatives are promoting procurement of milk and animals, imparting training and information to the members. Providing credit, marketing facilities and necessary health and medical assistance to the animals are also another important activity of the cooperatives.

Child Welfare Program

The organization regularly conduct awareness on child rights issues. The SHGs and Federation of SHGs have responsible task of ensuring that all the children who attain 3 years to be enrolled in the ICDS centers and all the school going age children to be enrolled in the school and ensure no dropout from the schools. SEVAK is in close touch with child welfare committees, Child lines 1098 and District Child Protection Unit, in case any matter of issues arise.

Initiative for Married Adolescent Girls Empowerment Program (IMAGE)

SEVAK has been implementing IMAGE targeting 600+ early married girls. The program focuses on their health rights and ensuring that the married girl finds alternatives strategies for their daughters to end the cycle of child marriage. IMAGE conducts social mapping to identify referral opportunities to address for Gender Based Violence among early married girls (EMGs), Emergency health, psychological, legal aid, medication services to EMGs.

Child Empowerment for GOOD

The aim is to protect girl from the Devadasi system, focusing on rehabilitation of the victims of Devadasi system and to prevent vulnerable children from entering sexual abuse/sexual exploitation by dedication as Devadasi.
