Financial Note : 1) Grants from Karnataka State Social Welfare Board included in Government sources. 2) In FY11, Grant arrears received taken in Other Income. 3) Current assets include grant receievable from Government bodies. Rs317,035 due from Ministry of Rural Development, Department of Education, Government of India has been outstanding since March 2011. 4) Loans have been taken against Grant receivables.

NGO Profile :
Asha Kirana Seva Trust (AKST) was established to promote equity, social justice and sustainable development for the upliftment of rural women and children.

Some of their 2012-13 activities were as follows:

  • Educational Support: The organisation provided 50 rural children with uniforms, notebooks, and an opportunity at a holistic education by educating them on their rights and conducting health awareness camps.
  • National Environmental Educational Programmes: AKST in coordination with the Ministry of Environment & Forest, Government of India and Karnataka Rajya Vignana Parishth conducted biodiversity awareness campaigns at Saroja Memorial School. Essay and quiz competitions gave children the chance to learn and teach others about keeping the environment clean. Prizes were given to the winners.
  • Crèche Units: The organisation runs crèche units with the support of the Central Social Welfare Board in New Delhi and the Karnataka State Social Welfare Board. Two crèche centres are run for children of working mothers, from the ages of 1 to 6 years. Basic health check-ups are conducted and daily food is provided. 55 children benefitted this year.
  • Children’s Club: AKST organises activities and trainings to improve socialization, reduce alienation, and increase the development of underprivileged children.
  • Child Labour Eradication Programme: Awareness programmes are conducted on the rights of children to education, the importance of the girl child, and the effects of child labour.
  • Vocational Trainings: For 20 women self-help group members in the areas of tailoring, embroidery, and other handicrafts.
  • Community Based Health Programme: AKST works to disseminate information on reproductive health, sanitation, HIV/AIDS, polio, herbal medicines, nutrition, and immunizations.
  • Women Welfare Programmes: AKST assisted 15 widows, 10 elderly, 20 disabled individuals and 8 women to get pensions from the government under various schemes.
