Preserving and Uplifting the Korku Community of India
After careful research and reviewing, Spandan came into existence in 2002 in order to focus mainly on these four interventions - Nutrition, Food Security, Behavior Change and Preservation of Korku Culture.
Activities of Spandan Samaj Seva Samiti - i) Community based Malnutrition Program: The intention behind this program is to prevent malnourishment in Korku communities. The NGO conducts regular follow ups, nutritional counselling, providing necessary nourishment supplements, etc. ii) Women Empowerment: Spandan has initiated several Common Interest Groups (CIGs) to encourage and support them for developing right perspectives, skill building and grievance handling. iii) Biodiversity Conservation: Promoting backyard nutrition gardens, purchase of local ingredients, use of organic pesticides, holding sensitization workshops for farmers are some of the key activities under this program.
In the spirit of preserving Korku's traditional culture and its language Spandan hosts campaigns in order to popularize it.
