Services for Children with Developmental Disabilities
Crisis: There are over 52 million children in India who are either born with a developmental disability or acquire it due to poverty related risk factors. There is a dearth of services available for these children. Ummeed's vision is to help children with developmental disabilities or at high risk for developmental disabilities reach their maximum potential and be included in society.
Programs: 1) Clinical Services: Direct services provided to children with developmental disabilities and their families, especially from low-income background. 2) Training: For professionals, parents, community health workers, teachers and others to create more accessible resources in the community. 3) Research: Relevant to the field of early childhood development and disability. 4) Awareness & Advocacy: To make the voice of parents of children with developmental disabilities be heard and to advocate for these children in India.
Outcome: Each year, 1,100+ children are benefitted through 7,000+ sessions. To date, 12,300+ children have benefitted through 77,000+ sessions and 5,500+ persons have been trained. The IDPA Congress hosted by Ummeed during the year had representation from 500+ participants across 33 countries.
