Banwasi Vikas Ashram primarily works in the areas of Education, Health, Family Planning, Right to information and food, Livelihood and Skill development, Capacity building dedicated towards Youth among the underprivileged community. Banwasi’s aim is to develop self-help approach among the disadvantaged community by working on their immediate concerns and empowering the inbuilt system of rural communities for taking up development initiatives by themselves. Major Activities include: Livelihood & Capacity Building: The NGO promotes sustainable agricultural practices through implementing scientific methods to make healthy profitable agro-products and engaging the farmers in their own process of making effective production. Banwasi works on causes like water harvesting, social conservation, awareness on food and nutrition, technology promotion, usage of organic fertilizers, sanitation and hygiene, social campaigns, and political awareness. Child Rights & Education: Banwasi believe that every child must get the required environment and opportunity to grow, educate and live a healthy life. The NGO has been working on this issue of education since its inception. Banwasi educational initiatives are related to community mobilization, capacity building of educational staff & volunteers, content diversity and service delivery with innovative pedagogies for at-risk children. It provides residential bridge course for schooling of disadvantaged adolescent girls. The NGO as an educational resource centre has significantly contributed to promotion and capacity building of village/panchayat educational committees. Tele helpline model is India’s first 24-hour, free, emergency phone service for children in need of aid and assistance that spells hope for millions of children across India. Health: The programs initiated by the NGO ensures adolescent’s health & rights, reduced anaemia & malnutrition, interventions on young people’s reproductive sexual health. It aims at abolishing the rural myth on abortion and aware people to have understanding about the safe-abortion and the related legal acts along with spreading awareness on HIV/AIDs and SRH. It educates teenagers on menstrual hygiene and reproductive sexual health in various schools. |
