The Avehi Public Charitable (Educational) Trust is dedicated to continuing education and critical social intervention through use of media resources. The focus is on improving and strengthening public education system and to impact mainstream policy on education. It seeks to work for institutionalisation of meaningful, engaging and creative teaching-learning curricula within schools and on teacher education platforms.

It has developed three integrated packages of educational materials for students and teachers in the formal as well as the non-formal streams of learning- Sangati, Manthan and Saath Saath.

Major Interventions:

Sangati (Togetherness/Harmony) a thought-provoking, interactive Life Skills Enhancement and Enrichment Curriculum comprising of a series of 6 teaching-learning kits with interlinked themes, drawn from sciences and social sciences. Equality, sensitivity, celebration of diversity, concern for the environment, and respect for work and the dignity of labour are some of the fundamental values that are emphasized throughout the Sangati series. This programme is implemented in school and non-school settings with children of age group between 11 and 14 years.

Manthan (Churning) is a foundation course developed for trainee teachers enrolled for Diploma in Teacher Education. Its approach is to supplement rather than replace the mainstream curriculum. Further, the course is to be conducted by ‘regular’ teacher educators. It focuses on the teacher’s role and their vital contribution towards making education truly meaningful. The course also serves as a refresher module for them to be in line with the changes proposed in the system by recent legislations and policies.

Saath Saath (Living in Harmony) is a module developed on Gender Equality in response to the increasing awareness about gender parity and ironically, the growing violence against the female sex. It has been developed to generate respect for individuals irrespective of their biological sex. It aims to create an awareness that requires not just intellectual effort but sensitivity and open-mindedness. The Saath Saath kit contains a manual consisting of 12 session plans that discuss gender issues for adolescents and are meant for teachers or instructors.
