Society for Development Activities (Project KHEL) works towards empowering adolescents, paving the way to a more equal and inclusive society. Project KHEL is an acronym for Kids Holistic Education and Life Skills, and is an initiative of the Society for Development Activities. The NGO uses the language of play to impart the unlearnt and speak what is unsaid. It imparts life skills to transform adolescents into informed and gender sensitive citizens, leaders in their communities, and widen the scope of their future opportunities. Harnessing the power of play, it creates safe play spaces and implements holistic, interactive, and experiential learning methods through sports, story-telling, theatre, crafts, dance and games. Major Interventions: Made In Maidaan: A transformative program that uses the playground as a platform to cultivate life skills among children through the power of play. By engaging children in structured, themed activities, the program addresses essential topics like leadership, empathy, and teamwork. Facilitators guide the sessions with a focus on interactive learning and reflection, helping children transition from passive participants to confident, informed individuals ready to lead and contribute to their communities. This approach not only fosters personal growth but also instils a proactive, solution-oriented mind-set in the young participants. Ultimate Frisbee, which began in the United States, has evolved into a globally recognized sport, endorsed by the International Olympic Committee for its unique emphasis on mixed-gender teams and self-officiation under the "Spirit of the Game" (SOTG). At Project KHEL, Ultimate Frisbee serves as a powerful tool for youth development, embedding these values deeply into the participants' lives through both practice and competitive play thereby promoting fair play, integrity, and a cooperative spirit. The sport not only hones physical skills like running, throwing, and catching but also cultivates life skills such as empathy, self-discipline, and effective communication. ab BAS!: The initiative focuses on preventing child sexual abuse by educating children about body autonomy and safe versus unsafe touches using a gender-neutral, age-appropriate curriculum. The NGO also equip parents and teachers with strategies to support and protect children effectively, using interactive methods like storytelling and role-playing. Red Spot: It addresses menstrual stigma by empowering young girls through creative workshops that use art, and humour to foster positive attitudes towards menstruation. The initiative also educates boys and involves older women, promoting a supportive, informed community dialogue around menstruation. Teen Talks: The aim is to provide a safe space for teenagers to discuss sensitive issues like sexuality and peer pressure openly. Through non-judgmental, open forums, teens are encouraged to explore and understand these complex topics, gaining knowledge and tools to handle the challenges of adolescence with confidence. |
