Situation is grim and a large part of Kerala is severely affected. Non-stop rains and regular release of water from the dams is making it worse. Border areas of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, parts of North-east, Odisha, Uttarakhand and some other states are also going through a real rough monsoon phase.
Goonj is there and is gearing up for a short-term and long-term work like earlier big disasters. We certainly need you too.. more people, resources, material and money.
With systemic approach from relief to rehabilitation, known nationwide for its work in disasters. From Chamoli quake in 1999 to J&K floods, Gujrat earthquake, Uttarakhand floods to Chennai floods.
Every year Goonj works through its interventions in big and small disasters from cloud burst, floods, earthquakes, landslides, tsunami to man-made disasters like fire, riots etc.
Right now a team headed by Goonj Founder is in Kerala. They are assessing the ground conditions and needs and also forging partnerships with local organisations, volunteers and authorities and setting up operations like organizing space etc logistics the way we have been working on disasters in past 2 decades.
The expenses on Goonj will largely be around buying basic essentials, around space, supporting institutional damages like schools, anganwadis, community centers, welfare centers and transporting material from all over the country to our relief material in and around Kerala. While similar relief operation are happing in affected regions like Uttarakhand, Odisha and Assam which did not receive much media attention.
