Cyclone Amphan ripped through West Bengal, Odisha, Assam and Bangladesh, toppling trees, ripping through buildings and tearing houses apart. Floods followed the cyclone, and villages in the Sundarbans are discovering that parts of their land is flooded by sea water now. The loss of human life was averted by moving people to secure spots before the cyclone hit. Shaken and scared, people are leaving the temporary shelters to find that home no longer exists. As they wade through the rubble and saline water, thoughts of food and drinking water are of main concern. After that, the struggle to rebuild their houses and livelihoods, all shattered by the cyclone.
Based on NGO programs reviewed by our Research Analysts, we have listed the following donation options:

Action Aid has been quick with their relief response required in many severely affected areas due to Cyclone Amphan. They aim to reach 8,200 affected households of East Medinipur, South 24 Parganas and Kolkata in West Bengal where they have a presence. The affected communities were already reeling under the impact of COVID-19 with loss of jobs, wages and livelihood. Cyclone Amphan has rendered them more vulnerable to meet their basic needs like food, household materials, shelter, and livelihood. Through this support we plan to support the households with these immediate needs so that they are back on their feet.

People directly affected by the cylones have been involved in decisions around what kind of support is needed. Community committees have already been formed to support the delivery of support materials as well as to monitor the response work. While distributing materials in the community, transparency banner in local language containing detailed quality and quantity of relief material will be put up. This will also be read out loud before distribution for clarity of those who are unable to read.
The people affected by the cyclone are twice hit by misfortune – first COVID-19 and now this devasting disaster. Our hopes and prayers are with them. We want to reach out and provide a ray of support and solidarity. In this time of difficulty, they don't have to rebuild alone. Our community is with them as they pick up the pieces of their lives. Any contribution from you will support them immensely. Donate now!
