ALERT - India (Association for Leprosy Education, Rehabilitation and Treatment) is dedicated towards strengthening national leprosy control efforts. The focus is on three key areas: advancing scientific knowledge, promoting sustainable and guiding principles, and establishing best practices. It prioritize empowering vulnerable groups like tribal communities, women, children, and people with disabilities, achieved through people-cantered disease control initiatives and community-based programs.

Major Interventions:

Leprosy Elimination Action Programme (LEAP): The NGO has been providing treatment to patients through their leprosy referral centres (LRCs). The basic purpose is to strengthen integration by empowering GHC (General Health Care) personnel to treat and manage leprosy on par with other diseases. Patients are provided with treatment, counselling, medication, and physiotherapy services free of cost in clinics.

Awareness, Detection & Treatment: It has also produced various information, education and communication materials for Leprosy and TB/HIV awareness in the form of films, leaflets, flip charts (albums), posters, stickers and booklets. Alert India provides muscle stimulation, pre-fabricated splints, special micro cellular rubber footwear which are specially made for feet with problems such as loss of sensation, heel pain, corns, cracks and fissures effectively used by leprosy and diabetic patients, and other aids at concessional rates to patients with various types of deformities.

TB, HIV Control & Family Development: Alert India has many initiatives for effective delivery of free diagnostic for patients with systematic evaluation and treatment. Vihaan CSCs are committed to the health and well-being of patients and their affected families. It conducts regular exhibitions, presentations, and awareness campaigns to dispel misconceptions concerning leprosy. Special education programmes are organised for students and teachers who can spread scientific facts about leprosy.
